The Immaculate Conception and Keeping Watch

The Immaculate Conception may seem to be far removed from our troubled times and from those fierce persecutions that will flame up during the time of the Antichrist. But this is not so; the power and strength, comfort and light of this Mystery is now more relevant than ever.

The first moment of the fullness of times was that moment when the Holy Spirit protected the soul and body of the Virgin Mary from the original contagion that infects every man born into this world. Separating Her forever from the kingdom of this world, the Holy Spirit filled Her with Grace and infused into Her soul all the virtues that make up the Christian life. Remaining with Her, the Holy Spirit continually increased Her Sanctifying Grace and perfected Her virtues, right up to the moment of the Incarnation. There, Her original Grace was transformed into the Divine Maternity and God made His tabernacle among men in Her bosom.

On the other hand, as mankind recedes from that fullness of time, all that had been built by Grace upon the Incarnation will be so diminished as to almost disappear.

For this reason, the Gospels tell us we must keep watch, lest we too lose what we have received. That is to say, as the times become worse, we must fix our attention more upon Our Lord and upon His Mother. In fact, the Church waits for the victory of Christ, though it must face the terrible persecution of the Antichrist.

The evangelical “keeping watch” does not only mean to watch for the thief in the night who will steal our goods. It also means to wait the summons of God to enter the battle. It means to read the signs of Providence steering us towards good works. It also means to peer deeply into the mysteries of Faith so that penetrating their meaning, we are able to withstand all temptations until Christ comes.

The Immaculate Conception was the dawn preceding the advent of the Sun. For Christ’s second coming, Devotion to the Immaculate Conception in the Immaculate Heart will be the light preceding the full light of Christ’s final judgment and victory. In this dawn we must prepare for the hard times ahead.

The Immaculate Conception means God will have no part with evil. Powerful over evil He will always give us the grace to vanquish it. We must therefore keep watch and determine never to compromise with the evils at work in the world. No one must think this is beyond him. The immense grace of the Immaculate Conception was not beyond Mary because God willed it so. “This is the will of God, your sanctification!”

The Immaculate Conception means the plenitude of Grace with all the infused supernatural virtues. After Her birth, Mary ran from virtue to virtue, for such is the power of Grace that it is always fruitful. We must therefore keep watch and always do some good in Her honor and to fulfill Her plans.

The Immaculate Conception means the Temple of the Holy Spirit where He reigned supreme. We are also temples of God whom the devil wishes to obscure, hinder, and violate. We must watch carefully over our heart, and give it completely to the Immaculata, to serve God alone with Her and in Her. Ave Maria!
